![]() ![]() Their past actions are a prominent source of friction between the two of them, yet Vanessa respects Malcolm in that he is a cunning strategist and a leader to the others. She also chastises him for his own infidelity through his affair with Vanessa's mother. These feelings are also mutual, in that Vanessa has a low opinion of Malcolm: she describes him as being vainglorious, arrogant and hypocritical, having been far more interested in exploring and collecting trophies in Africa, consequently serving his ego, than in the welfare of his children. However, it is clear, to a certain extent, that Malcolm harbors dislike and disgust for Vanessa over her role in Mina's disappearance. He comes across at times as a father figure to Vanessa, for the two have a mutual admiration and deep understanding of one another. “We can lose every battle except the last.Sir Malcolm is a hard, shrewd and intelligent man, a once jovial and enthusiastic explorer turned cold by the anger and guilt he feels over his son's death, his daughter's disappearance and his estrangement from his wife. “So we’ll carry on with this fight,” he declares. “You ignored her your entire life!”īut Malcolm remains determined to rescue Mina from evil forces. “I betrayed your daughter once,” Vanessa exclaims. Vanessa suspects Mina is colluding with the vampire as an act of revenge. ![]() It came after you,” Malcolm informs Vanessa upon her return. Vanessa is out when the vampire appears - fortunately for the human race - and Fenton dies in a struggle. “Give me what I need!”įenton apparently allowed himself to be captured so his master (Robert Nairne) could track down and ravage Vanessa with apocalyptic consequences. Fenton is submissive at first, then reveals his violent side when offered an apple. ![]() Look upon your master!”įinally, Victor performs a blood transfusion on Fenton (Olly Alexander), a vampire’s servant chained in Malcolm’s basement. “The future belongs to the strong - to the immortal race. “What a simple thing it is to snap your neck,” Caliban haughtily observes. “To match her mate?” Victor retorts, antagonizing the hideously scarred creature. “Do what you have promised me,” Caliban insists, emphasizing that his wife must be beautiful. Brought back from the dead by Victor, the monster demands an immortal bride. Victor interrupts their work when he spots murderous Caliban (Rory Kinnear) lurking outside. That property assists with hematophagy - the eating of blood. Vampire blood has a unique property preventing coagulation, Van Helsing explains. They do so at the behest of Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton) as he desperately strives to free his daughter Mina (Olivia Llewellyn) from a perilous netherworld. Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway) analyze vampire blood. Meanwhile, Professor Abraham Van Helsing (David Warner) helps Dr. Overwhelmed by alcohol and horrific memories, Ethan unexpectedly grabs Dorian and kisses him hard on the mouth - swapping a terminally ill lover for one untouched by time. It’s the only music that still excites Dorian, specifically the “Liebestod” aria with its theme of erotic love and death. Dorian treats Ethan’s wounds and plies him with absinthe and the “Tristan und Isolde” Wagnerian opera. ![]()
